NYC-June 2010

Went to the Big Apple last week to see my niece, Katie, sing with a big group at Carnegie Hall. It was a great trip and getting to attend the performance at the Hall was a great dream of mine. Of course, I always wanted to be the one who was singing there, but to be able to see her perform with such a wonderful group was a dream come true for her and me!!!   It is a beautiful old venue, you sit there and look at the beauty of the Hall and think about all the wonderful artists and performances that have been going on there for many decades!!  During the performance I looked around just to soak in the whole evening.  We were on the floor of the hall and as I looked up to the box seats, the people were silhouetted in the boxes.   The doorways behind them glowed with the lights out in the hallway and it was so amazing to see how each persons head were tilted and listening to the performance.   It was a picture all in itself.     The performance was one of beauty in song and story.   They didn’t want us to take pictures, but we managed to get a few of our beautiful surroundings.   It was an exciting evening for all of us, including the proud parents, Cindy and Johannes.    We were all proud of Katie and especially on this night at her performance at one of the most beautiful concert halls in the world!!!!!

Molly and I then proceeded to have another exciting couple of days in the city. We saw two shows, Race, it was a great performance by the whole cast.   I was most excited about seeking James Spader and Richard Thomas in the show. I have always thought both of these men were excellent actors. To see them up close, we were in the second row, was wonderful.   Makes me want to get back into performing again!!!  Great show!! We then went and saw Million Dollar Quartet!!! OMG!! It was wonderful.   It is about Elvis, Cash, Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis. The performances by these very talented actors/musicians was magnificent!! The music was outstanding!! The whole audience was up singing and dancing by the end. Both shows were wonderful and we enjoyed every minute of both of them.

Molly and I had a chance to really get to know each other a little more on this trip. We travel well together and we like alot of the same things. We were walking down the streets of NY singing and just enjoying our time there.

Had some great eats, drinks and of course people watching in NY is the best.  We walked many miles, even ventured onto the subway, that is always entertaining.

We went to the World Trade Center site. There is much building going on, but it is still such a somber place to be.  You can just feel the presence of all those brave souls.  There is a beautiful wall memorial on the side of one of the adjacent buildings.  If you go to NYC, you should visit this site.  It is a part of all of us.

Molly and I have made a pact to go back again, hopefully this year and see some more shows.

Plan a trip to NYC, it is worth it!!!

Congrats again to Katie!! I hope for her there will be other great performances in her future!!!

Love ya Molly, thanks for coming with me on this adventure!!! I look forward to many more!!!

  • Thanks for the tip about “Million Dollar Quartet”. And I agree with you about RACE. It was wonderful seeing James Spader and Richard Thomas live on the stage. Did you get any autographs after the show? Both men would always come out and sign autographs for all who wished to have one…unusual for performers to be this giving one time after another. James is gone from the show now, but Richard is still there.
